Cat Laundry - A 4×4 strategy duel with cats and diagonal chain reactions

by
Cat Laundry is a free 4×4 browser strategy duel about cats in washing machines. Each 8-second turn, you sacrifice one cat: it switches to the enemy color while a delayed diagonal wave recolors the board for you. Close squares, diamonds, or crosses to score, or move quickly to interrupt an opponent’s wave before it finishes. Separate shapes score together; overlapping ones keep only the highest value. Matches last 4–5 minutes. Play Hard AI without an account or challenge another player online.

Cat Laundry started with a shot from Mr. Oizo’s M-Seq: Flat Eric sitting in a car wash. I liked the music and the image, then replaced the car with rows of washing machines full of cats. That was enough at first. Then I put the machines on a grid and tried to make a strategy game out of it. The hard part was not building more rules. It was making cause and effect readable: sacrifice one cat, watch the diagonal wave, complete a shape, score it, then recycle that shape. I rebuilt the tutorial several times and slowed the wave into visible steps. I’d love honest feedback after one match: where did the rules stop making sense, did the game become interesting once they clicked, and would simplifying the sacrifice mechanic improve it or flatten the decisions?
