What's the one thing you always check before buying a used car?

I'm launching CarScorer here Tuesday — a free tool that scores any used car's reliability by VIN (recalls, known issues, fair price). Before I do, I'm curious what this community checks first when buying used: recalls? owner count? a specific mechanical gotcha? Genuinely want to hear what's saved you — or burned you.
