Calamus - Write, format, and publish your novel in one app

by•
Calamus is the writing studio for novelists who see the whole book at once. Most writers draft in one app (Scrivener, Ulysses) and reformat in another (Vellum, Atticus). Calamus does both on the same file: a full drafting studio — binder, corkboard, outliner, world-building — plus a compiler that outputs a retailer-ready EPUB or PDF with 1,900+ fonts. Native on Mac & iPad, fully offline, one-time purchase. Write, compile, publish.

Hi Product Hunt 👋 Calamus came out of two problems we kept running into as writers. First, idea capture. Ideas rarely happen while you're sitting in your writing app, and most tools make you stop and open something else to note one down — so you lose it. We wanted idea capture built into the same place you write, ready whenever you need it, so nothing gets dropped between the thought and the manuscript. Second, the distance between writing and readers. You draft in one app, format the book in another, and share your work from somewhere else entirely. The book and the people you're writing for end up in separate tools. We wanted writing and sharing in one place. So Calamus does the whole path in one app: capture the idea, draft and organize the book, typeset it into a retailer-ready EPUB or PDF, and share your work with readers — native on Mac and iPad, offline, one-time purchase. We also build it continuously. We ship improvements, designs, and features on an ongoing basis, shaped around how writers actually work, so it keeps getting easier to use instead of more cluttered. The aim is software that follows your process, not one you work around. It's pre-launch and the waitlist is open. If you write, I'd like to know: where does your current setup lose your ideas, or lose the connection between finishing something and getting it to readers?
