Hey Product Hunt 👋 I’m Joe, the maker of AriaType. I built AriaType because I found myself using voice input more and more, but most existing tools had the same problems: they were either just basic transcription, too expensive to use daily, or locked into a single provider and workflow. I wanted something that felt more flexible and practical for real writing — replying to messages, drafting prompts, writing emails, taking notes, switching between languages, or turning rough spoken thoughts into polished text. AriaType is my attempt to make voice input feel more like an input method for your desktop. Hold a shortcut, speak naturally, and AriaType inserts the result directly where your cursor is. It can also use the current-window context to clean up, rewrite, punctuate, or format your speech so it fits the app and task you’re working on. A few things I care about: * Free and open-source * Local-first by default * Works across normal desktop apps * Context-aware writing * Raw or polished output * Multilingual input * Support for local LLMs and optional cloud services The goal is not just “speech to text,” but a faster, more natural writing workflow for people who think better by speaking. I’d love your feedback, especially if you write a lot across chat, email, notes, prompts, or code-adjacent workflows. Thanks for checking it out 🙏
