AgentGuard - A realtime codebase safety layer for AI assisted development

AI coding tools can change files in seconds—and silently break code you never touched. AgentGuard is a local-first VS Code extension that monitors changes in real time, highlights potential impact across files, flags suspicious edits to critical logic (auth, permissions, validation, error handling), and tracks new diagnostics. Findings update as issues are fixed. Works with AI coding assistants—no AI API key or cloud account required.

Hey Product Hunt! 👋

I'm the maker behind AgentGuard.

I built AgentGuard because I noticed something while working with AI coding assistants: they can modify multiple files incredibly quickly, but understanding the impact of those changes is still a developer's responsibility.

A change in one file can introduce unexpected problems somewhere else. Authentication checks, validation rules, error handling, and other important logic can also be unintentionally weakened or removed.

I wanted a lightweight safety layer that could watch these changes while developers work — without adding another AI subscription, API key, or cloud dependency.

So I built AgentGuard as a local-first VS Code extension.

I'd genuinely love your feedback:

  1. What is the biggest risk you've experienced when using AI coding assistants?

  2. Which types of risky code changes should AgentGuard detect better?

  3. What would make you keep this extension enabled every day?

Thanks for checking it out! 🚀
