Hey PH Community, Jaheim here.
Today, Romar and I are incredibly excited (and, honestly, a bit nervous!) to finally share Acumen with all of you! This one has truly been a labor of love and a long time in the making.
My journey to Acumen started about 3 years ago. I was deep in self-studying Software Engineering and Mathematics, a rigorous path, as many of you know. The biggest, most consistent hurdle I faced wasn't the complex concepts, but managing my own time effectively. I’d wake up, meticulously plan my day, allocate time to tasks... only to find my judgment was off. I'd over-allocate here, under-allocate there. Then, an unexpected meeting or task would pop up, and my whole carefully crafted schedule would derail, forcing me to manually re-plan everything. It was time-consuming, tedious, and frankly, frustrating.
After countless conversations with friends and peers who shared similar struggles, especially students, it became crystal clear: there needed to be a smarter, more systematic way to plan and organize our days. That’s when the idea for Acumenwas born, and we’ve been building and refining it ever since.
The Problem We Saw (Maybe You've Felt It Too?):
If you're like Taylor, a 21-year-old college junior we imagined (and met many versions of!), you're probably juggling a full course load, maybe a part-time job, and trying to have some semblance of a social life. Keeping track of assignments, study goals, work tasks, and personal commitments across multiple tools feels disjointed, right? Traditional to-do lists and calendars often don’t account for the real effort or mental energy each task demands.
Taylor, like many of us, often underestimates how long study sessions or projects will actually take. This leads to back-to-back deadlines, very little time to rest or recharge, and that constant, gnawing anxiety when tasks pile up. The fear of burnout, slipping grades, or dropping important projects is real. Current planning often feels random, inflexible, and more like a source of stress than a solution.
So, what is Acumen?
Acumen is your intelligent daily planner, designed specifically for busy students and professionals who want to get more done, smarter. We go beyond simple to-do lists. Acumen analyzes how your perceived effort and enjoyment for tasks fluctuate throughout your day. Then, (and this is our unique bit!) it applies principles from Calculus to suggest the optimal amount of time to dedicate to each task.
The goal? To ensure you're working efficiently and effectively, without burning out or sacrificing your well-being. It’s about bringing a science-backed, yet user-friendly approach to simplify complex planning and help you stay focused on what truly matters. Think of it as your personal assistant for achieving balanced productivity, every single day.
How Acumen Helps:
Acumen tackles these exact problems by:
Understanding You: It doesn't just list tasks; it considers your input on the effort and enjoyment involved.
Intelligent Time Allocation: Using our Calculus-based approach, it suggests how long you should spend on tasks to maintain focus and energy.
About Us:
I'm Jaheim, a full-stack Software Engineer who became deeply focused on productivity out of personal necessity. My co-founder, Romar, brings his experience in Engineering and user research. Together, we’ve poured our energy into building a tool we genuinely believe can make a difference.
Our Ask & Give for the PH Community:
What we’re asking:
We would absolutely LOVE your honest feedback, support, and thoughts.
