Google just launched its FaceTime competitor, a one-to-one video calling app for iOS and Android. We saw a brief demo at Google I/O earlier this year -- its cool video preview feature is quite memorable. 🙂

Duo looks like an impressive addition to a crowded space of new video messaging that includes Tribe, Bunch, Airtime, and of course Snapchat.

Time traveling apps! #TBT 👾💾📠
Nostalgia is a powerful tool for connecting with your audience. It’s one of the reasons for Pokemon GO’s massive success and why Netflix’s new retro show, Stranger Things, was so well-received by 80’s babies.

Is this the next Instagram? 🤔
There's a recent trend in photo editing apps that are simply magic. They go way beyond what Instagram originally did with filters, by turning your regular photos into art. Some of our favorites:

• DeepArt turn your pics into artsy masterpieces using algorithms
• The hugely popular Prisma added some amazing new filters recently
• Artisto is like Prisma, but for videos (like the one above)
• Upload photos into Emoji Mosaic to get incredible emoji creations
Pikazo uses artificial intelligence to create LaCroix faces

NEW from Twitter ⚡️
10 months ago, Twitter Moments launched with mixed reaction:

"Given how much I truly enjoy the Discover feature on Snapchat and the ability to check out live events, I'm really excited for this." —Cat Noone

"It's so so late, and maybe unforgivably so" —Mischa Nachtigal

"I gotta be honest.... I think this is going to be a bust." —Seth Miller

Today, Twitter announced you too will be able to create Moments. Read the full announcement.
Rumors confirmed. Walmart buys two-year-old startup for $3B 💰😳
Late last week, rumors spread that Walmart was in talks to buy Jet, a two-year-old startup, for $3b (yes, a billy). This morning, rumors were confirmed with their cash buyout of the Amazon competitor.

This is one of many startups acquired this year. Snapchat gobbled up Bitmoji for $100m, Facebook bought this wacky augmented reality app, and Shots picked up this Musical.ly competitor. The M&A market is heating up.
