Yesterday, Ev Williams sent an email to a select group of Medium users, introducing Medium’s new $5/month subscription service. As a "founding member” you’ll get access to exclusive stories from top writers, early access to new features, and a personal offline reading list. The news was met with mixed reactions.

Revealed: Jack Dorsey's Homescreen📱
Through expert level social engineering, we obtained an exclusive sneak peek at Jack Dorsey’s homescreen. Let's analyze the Twitter & Square CEO's preferences and well curated list of apps.
First, Jack uses the supercool (employee-only) dark blue Twitter app, and gives special bottom bar placement to the default Notes app and Spotify. We also see that he has notifications turned off for most apps, except for iMessage and Podcasts. What's he listening to? 🤔🤔🤔

👻 Snapchat has prominent placement (no Facebook or Instagram)
✅ Internal version of Square Cash, next to Caviar (acquired by Square)
🎈 Lyft over Uber
🌍 Hello Duolingo! (Jack is learning a new language)

Apple launched a new social camera app! 📸
This morning, Apple (unexpectedly) announced its take on "Stories", a new social camera app called Clips.
While its Prisma-like video filters and explosive emojis look fun, Apple doesn't have the best track record building social software (remember Ping?). But could this be the next big "Stories" app, rivaling Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook? 🤔
P.S. this isn't the only product announcement by Apple today. They also launched this for a good cause. 🙏

Thousands of aspiring founders apply to Y Combinator for every batch but only ~100 startups are admitted. Today is graduation day for the first half of the Winter 2017 batch and we got the inside scoop on some of the companies that'll be pitching. 🎉
The most upvoted company of the batch (so far) is Tetra, which automatically takes notes for you by dialing into your phone calls. Not far behind is Floyd, the “Heroku for deep learning".
There's also Niles, a Slack app that turns your chats into a live wiki, and Tress, a popular app for discovering and sharing hairstyle inspiration and tips. And of course, companies are applying artificial intelligence to just about everything (like solving acne and running a hedge fund that buys art).

Finding the right tool can be critical for executing on a product or feature. The discovery process can also inspire new ideas altogether. I am always on the lookout for new dev tools and APIs that can level up our team, here are six products that have recently caught my eye.
Algolia Places: I have a lot of faith in Algolia’s low-latency search products and this one seems great to easily enrich a drop-in.
TalkJS: A library to easily add much-important messaging features to web apps. This is not a wheel I want to re-invent.
Glitch: There have been several attempts at the build-modify-execute community programming ideas. This one seems like it could stick, and be a lot of fun.
Bugsee: Turning the breadcrumbs of an app crash into usable video. This seems brilliant.
Jasonette Cross Platform: Building native apps solely from a JSON-config. Insanely-declarative programming. This is wacky, but I can imagine a lot of scenarios where it’s just the right solution.
Coralogix: A smarter dashboard that raises important things to your attention, yes please!

This app will WIN SXSW this year 📱😏
Today, SXSW (unofficially) begins. Tech folks (aka "people from Twitter") will congregate in Austin for one big competition, at the end of which, one app is crowned "the winner" (with some keynotes/BBQ in-between).
Previous SXSW winners include: Twitter, Foursquare, GroupMe, Highlight, Banjo, Secret, and Meerkat. Come to think of it, taking over SXSW may be more of a curse then a treat. 😳 That said, we've asked a few people to predict who they think will stand out this year.
Greylock Partner, Josh Elman: "Houseparty is going to be a breakout as people in Austin hang with their friends back home. I am also excited about the on the ground audio reporting on the new launch of Anchor."
Founders Fund Partner, Cyan Banister, named Punkpost and Hooked as apps to watch this year.

Journalist, Taylor Lorenz, says that Whale could be the breakout app.
