Salesforce's $28B bet on Slack

Meet the power couple of 2020: Salesforce and Slack.

Salesforce announced end of day yesterday their deal to buy Slack for a whopping $27.7B. You might have heard rumblings of this news last week, with many tech bloggers predicting the union months ago. Slack will now become the new interface for Salesforce Customer 360.

“Together, Salesforce and Slack will shape the future of enterprise software and transform the way everyone works in the all-digital, work-from-anywhere world.” - Marc Benioff, Chair and CEO, Salesforce

Most of this excitement stems from the idea that Slack will be a worthy contender to Microsoft Teams as a communication product. For Salesforce, this seems like a natural move as a key player in the enterprise collaboration space, as adding Slack would make their suite more robust in the face of giants like Google Workspace and Microsoft.

Slack has undergone quite a few massive changes since its release in 2013. In 2018 they acquired their competitor HipChat and this year underwent their biggest redesign. With the Salesforce acquisition, we are wondering what new features will pop up in the future.

Our burning question: will we inherit a new suite of slackmojis to match the Salesforce characters? Product Hunt out here asking the real questions.

To see the impact of Slack in our community, check out all the Slack inspired products that have been released over the years.
