Mics, terminals, stickers

gm legends

Today: a $59 mic you squeeze and shake to play, a terminal you genuinely cannot break, and a way to rent out the lid of your laptop.

Squeeze the mic
  • EP–2350 FX–MICThe programmable mic you can squeeze, shake & play

The EP–2350 FX–MIC is a $59 handheld from Teenage Engineering that looks like a radio mic off a 1970s outside broadcast, which for most people buying it is the point. You squeeze the lever to bend the vocal effects, shake it to modulate them, and fire four samples off the buttons down the side. The samples swap out, the effect chain is a JSON file you can rewrite, and there's an RP2350 inside that people are already pulling apart, though it's really the EP–2350 Ting in K.O. II colors, lifted out of the reggae set it first shipped in.

  • WebTerm LearnLearn the terminal like a game — in a browser sandbox

WebTerm Learn is a terminal in your browser that you cannot break, so you can type rm -rf / and watch nothing at all happen. Dai Aoki draws the slides himself and lays the courses out as a 3D world map. The missions drop you into things that really went wrong, a release that took production down or a secret pushed to a repo, and he built it because engineers kept asking him what to learn now that AI writes the code, when pilots get to meet engine failure in a simulator and not in the air.

  • BrandMyLaptopSell ad space on your laptop

BrandMyLaptop rents out the lid of your laptop, so you add the machine, mark out the spots where a sticker could go, set your own prices, and turn down any brand you don't want on it. Then you print the stickers. Vincent S did it to himself first, putting up the lid of a MacBook he hadn't bought yet and taking €7,273 in 48 hours before the machine existed, then built this so anyone else could try it.
