Everyone's fine until you ask twice

Today: a way to check on a friend without asking if they're okay, a Windows menu bar Mac users have had for years, and a circuit-design tool built to solve one very specific plant problem. Plus the worst pitch deck advice founders keep getting.

Cercle lets you set a mood status your close friends can check any time, on a home screen widget, so they know how you're doing before they even call. Sheeta Verma (@sheetaverma) built it after a friend went quiet for ten months during a depression, and every call and text sent her way went unanswered.

🔥 Our Take: What Cercle actually does is remove the performance part entirely, there's no feed, no likes, nobody watching except the four or five people who'd genuinely notice if you went quiet. That's different from BeReal's swing at the same problem, which asked for one "authentic" photo a day and still turned into people posing for candid shots. A mood status sitting quietly on someone's home screen, never posted anywhere, is a much harder thing to fake, and that's exactly why it might actually work where the feed-based versions didn't.

ZenithBar pins a small island to the top of your Windows screen: hover it and get media controls, your next event, pinned apps, a file shelf, and clipboard history, move away and it vanishes. Henry Cauan (@henrycauan) built it after years of watching Windows shred his attention every time a background app stole focus just to skip a song.

🔥 Our Take: Windows has shipped its own version of this a few times already, Vista gadgets, then the widgets panel more recently, and people turned both off within a week. This is a solo dev trying to succeed where a whole product team at Microsoft didn't, which does happen sometimes, but it's the harder way to win.

EasyCircuit came out of Taira's own instrumented orchid growth chamber, temperature, humidity, and light all controlled by a custom ESP32 rig, after losing entire days to datasheets before wiring a single connection. Describe a circuit in plain English and it designs the schematic, lays it out for a breadboard, and matches every part to something actually in stock.

🔥 Our Take: Vibe coding already ate software, describe an app and something builds it for you. This is that same idea hitting a soldering iron for the first time. It showing up as one guy's orchid project instead of a funded startup's roadmap is probably how most of this next wave actually starts.

lucasjpols (@lucasjpols) asked the forums for the worst pitch-deck advice they'd ever gotten, and the replies turned into a genuine list of things founders do that quietly backfire.

The sharpest one came from ben_kahan (@ben_kahan): he watched a founder claim "Y Combinator" on a slide when they'd actually just taken YC's free online course. The moment he caught the stretch, every other claim on the deck lost the benefit of the doubt.

Other bad advice making the rounds: "don't mention competitors" (a blank slide just invites the question anyway), and "you only need 1% of a huge market" (says nothing about how you actually get your first customer).

Good thread if you're about to send a deck and someone told you to leave something vague on purpose.
