Today: a solo dev turned Japan into a progress bar, a synth claims it can outlast the universe, and your agent finally gets a real text editor.

Michał Paczyński (@xpaczka) got tired of Japanese apps skipping vocabulary for drills and games, so he built Mainichi himself: five-minute spaced-repetition sessions on iOS, 20,000 words, and a map of Japan that opens up one prefecture at a time as you learn.

🔥 Our Take: Language apps measure progress in streaks and JLPT levels, numbers that mean nothing until you've been at it a year. Mainichi measures it in Nagano. The comments picked up on it immediately: unlocking a country beats a green owl guilt-tripping you. It won't out-content Duolingo and it doesn't have to. It just has to be the app you'd rather open on the train.

WX is a synth built around controlled randomness: double-click the radar and it reshuffles the entire engine, oscillators, filter, envelopes, effects, into a new sound you can immediately play. Metehan Sipahi (@metehan_sipahi) says hearing everything it can generate would take millions of times longer than the age of the universe.

🔥 Our Take: Random patch buttons are as old as soft synths and they mostly spit out garbage, which is why nobody presses them twice. Sipahi's pitch runs opposite to every synth ad ever made: fewer parameters, tighter constraints, so the dice can't land on unusable. The universe math is marketing. The double-click isn't. It's for the blank-patch stare, and it beats scrolling 4,000 presets like it's Netflix.

OpenMarkdown opens any .md file instantly and gives your agent a seat at the keyboard: over CLI or MCP it reads what you've highlighted, jumps to sections, and co-edits the file while you type. XUEYANZ (@xueyanzhang) built it local-first, no account, no telemetry.

🔥 Our Take: You probably own more CLAUDE.md files than actual notes now, and you still edit them in tools that think markdown is for READMEs. Half the launch thread is a single question: what happens when you and the agent type in the same paragraph at once. VS Code dodges that with a separate pane. This is a solo dev trying the honest version, and someone had to.
