Of the many exciting announcements, letâs zero in on the release of the updated version of Googleâs large language model (LLM), PaLM 2 â soon to be accessible to makers and developers via the PaLM API.
PaLM 2 is also the LLM behind another of I/Oâs big announcements: the addition of generative AI results to Google Search, which theyâre calling âAI snapshots,â available on some (not all) search results to users who opt in to the âSearch Generative Experience.â
As David Pierce reports for the Verge, this long-awaited answer to Microsoftâs Bing AI is kind of a big deal: âGoogle is putting AI front and center in the most valuable real estate on the internet: its existing search results.â
Users can also experience PaLM 2 by using Googleâs chatbot, Bard, which is now open to everyone, even if you werenât on the waitlist. Bardâs LLM was recently switched from LaMDA to PaLM 2, which Google called âa much more capable model.â
