Yes and no. working only with unpaid apprentices - no Working with a small fraction of the team made up of unpaid apprentices - yes Now, if the team is really small....

No. Not because I don't think it would be useful, but because the work I'd want to attach myself to should be good enough to get paid for in the first place.
