When building links, relevance is key.

Building links for 8 years helped me realize something. If Google suddenly took away the ability for sites to get traffic from search (and it already is). Will the links you've built matter? Sometimes we get lost in the race on who has the most backlinks, who can build higher authority backlinks. But are those links driving traffic? Relevant traffic? Are you placing your links on publications where your audience is likely to be? There are some sites out there that have small domain ratings or domain authority but contains the most concentrated amount of potential customers. But we ignore these domains because the industry has led us to believe that backlinks with higher metrics play a role in rankings. And it still does. But if you mix that with hyper-relevant backlinks without any regard to the vanity metrics - then you're setting your website to withstand any attempts of search engines to take away your traffic. Relevance is key. It always has. It always will be.
