Starbucks Odyssey - what do you think?

Starbucks recently launched Starbucks Odyssey - an NFT-based Rewards loyalty program. Starbucks Odyssey experience will engage consumers with various activities, i.e. Starbucks branded games, fun challenges, etc.
The interesting thing is Starbucks is avoiding tech-lingo, for instance NFTs are journey stamps.
What are your thoughts on this? Do you think Starbucks will eventually replace traditional Starbucks Rewards with Starbucks Odyssey?

I have no idea how this go but I do have one thought. I think changing the language is clever if you want to attempt mass adoption. Most people don't buy tech - they buy what it can do for them.

@sven_radavics In their own words, they want to make it super easy and accessible. Sounds like they are targeting for mass adoption. Do you think other brands will follow their footstep as well?

@ashrahman I think the innovators will try it. If it works, then everyone will slowly join the bandwagon.

@sven_radavics yea, excited to see how it goes! ๐
They should not be calling it NFT... NFT has started to attract negative commotion to it.
They can still run this reward function without calling it NFT or putting things on block chain.

@anil_meena21 Exactly, it seems they are more interested in the tech than its hype.
NFTs will only succeed when the main selling point of them is not that they are NFTs.
These have a genuine purpose and use, and is bringing this kind of tech to the masses and that will (hopefully) help enable further adoption.
The benefit of Web3 and crypto in general is not that we can get in early enough to get rich, but that it opens more avenues for connection and private interaction with each other.

@ashrahman With regards to NFTs, anything that requires a proof of authenticity.
The common example is concert tickets. This allows people to ensure that they are not buying fakes. It also allows people to trade them on a grey market in secure ways, just because it's wallet to wallet.
A good use case that I came across recently is housing deeds. Apparently it's not uncommon for people to be tricked into buying houses/property/land that is not on the market. I believe it happens in a few different countries, but the one that I became away of it happening is the Philippines. These issues can be sidestepped by having an NFT deed minted by the local authority.
With regards to crypto in general, an idea that I really like is that each website has a small javascript crypto miner on it, which runs as you're on the website, and then sends mined coins to the owner of the website. This, to me, is beneficial because it presents an avenue of monetisation which does not rely on selling user data, which is something that I believe to be unethical at best (evil at worst).
My fantasy, which will never happen, is crypto currency becoming the defacto currency for everything. And one of the reasons that I want this is that we can use it to hold governments to account. We get to see each transaction in real time, we can see where our tax goes and what it's funding, or where it's being stolen. Pure fantasy, I know.

@smcn Cool example on the tickets, though it may raise concerns around more black marketeer misusing the tech.
I know about an NFT based project Calyon Metalab trying to apply this in the hoursing market with their blue-chip NFTs.
Instead of ad based revenue, data mining can turn into a trend with a crypto focused browser/ecosystem. Who knows may be someday we may see a large scale adoption of something like Tor Browser.
What are your thoughts on govt regulating the crypto?
@ashrahman hadn't heard of Caylon but it looks interesting, I'll definitely try to keep up with how they're doing. Thanks for the plug.
Regulation is inevitable but you can only really regulate the on/off ramps. That is, the point at which centralised companies are responsible for converting your crypto to money, i.e. Coinbase, Binance, etc. You can't really have meaningful restrictions on the other parts of the blockchain. And should crypto become the medium of exchange (as opposed to fiat) then there is absolutely nothing that can be done.

I can tell you first hand, the SMBs absolutely are trying to mimic the Starbucks Odyssey strategy. Starbucks is seen as a role model to a bunch of them.
The problem though is that they donโt have the same resources to just test out their web3 strategy due to the technical complexities that exist with blockchain and the lack of easy to use platforms.
This Friday, my team is launching Versify on PH and our goal is to solve this exact problem. Itโs our first time launching and we could really use some feedback on our page before itโs featured. Would really appreciate it and happy to reciprocate anytime. Linked below.

Another reason why I really like Starbucks as a business. They are entering new marketplaces, and not just being stagnant where they already have a good market share.

@jakepryszlak do you think most top brands do the same to stay relevant vs mediocre brands that become famous at some point and eventually fade out?

The term "Starbucks Odyssey" could evoke a sense of adventure or exploration associated with the experience of visiting Starbucks outlets. Just as Odysseus embarked on a long and challenging journey in Homer's epic poem "The Odyssey," one might imagine a Starbucks Odyssey as a metaphorical journey through various Starbucks locations, each with its unique atmosphere, people, and flavors.
In this context, a Starbucks Odyssey could be a delightful exploration of coffee culture and community, where each Starbucks store visited becomes a chapter in the larger narrative. From bustling city locations to serene suburban cafes, every stop offers a different ambiance and an opportunity to connect with the local culture. The beverages and pastries on offer become the "sirens" tempting you to try new flavors and experiences.
Much like the hero of the ancient epic faced trials and tribulations, a Starbucks Odyssey might involve navigating through busy queues, seeking out a cozy spot to enjoy your drink, or trying to remember the names of your favorite drinks from the elaborate menu. Along the way, you could meet fellow travelers seeking a moment of relaxation or productivity, all while savoring the aroma of freshly brewed coffee.
In essence, a Starbucks Odyssey might symbolize the idea that even within the familiar setting of a coffee shop chain, there's room for personal growth as provided by https://starbuckspartnershours.com/, . It could be a creative concept for coffee enthusiasts to share their own unique Starbucks experiences, blending the modern coffee culture with the timeless themes of exploration and personal journey.
Join the Starbucks Odyssey loyalty program today! When you become a member of this exclusive program from Starbucks, you'll start earning points with every purchase you make at Starbucks stores. These points can then be redeemed for delicious free food and drinks, making your Starbucks experience even more rewarding. As a member, you'll also enjoy fantastic perks like complimentary refills on brewed drinks and personalized offers. Best of all, joining the Starbucks Odyssey program is completely free, and you can easily sign up using the Starbucks app or by visiting the Starbucks website. Starbucks Odyssey sounds exciting with its NFT-based Rewards program, offering engaging activities like games and challenges. It's interesting how they've simplified the tech aspect by calling NFTs "journey stamps." I wonder if Starbucks Odyssey will eventually replace the traditional Starbucks Rewards program.
