Absolutely! Just basic styling code to help understand the reasoning behind some design requirements

Thanks, @jonathanm I curious whether you often meet folks that are scared off by more code-based approach?
Jonathan Massabni
@julia_prus1 the most senior designers i've worked with usually love to learn some code. That curiosity seems to help build more powerful designs :)

No, not necessarily. While there are some benefits to learning code basics, it is not essential for a career in design.

@qudsia_ali yeah, exactly – but what benefits do you have in mind?
Aline Utiyama
As a developer I would say it’s not too difficult to learn code basic, it might be helpful to learn at least CSS, HTML and JavaScript. I think developers should learn design basics too. ;D

Having even the most basic coding knowledge makes communication between coding and design teams much easier.

I don't think it is necessary for designers to learn, but it definitely helps when collaborating together! I am sure the same could be said for developers to learn basic design!

@sewell_stephens thanks! what do you mean by "problems with UIs" – could you specify?
John Radford
I would say no. Unless it's backend coding. Learning front end coding really adds no value in my opinion. Having an understanding of how a backend is architected could be useful in informing UX decisions and helping with edge cases though.

Understanding how code works, is good enough. Not everyone is passionate about staring at screen with code for long hours. Designers, we love color and visuals.

@ayush_shakya1 How do you begin the process of understanding how the code works?
Ayush Shakya
@julia_prus1 For front end language such as HTML,CSS, you can learn from W3schools. There you can try and test out html tags and CSS styles. For programming related knowledge, it's better to learn about different logical concepts like polymorphism, class, functions, arrays on what can be achieved using these concepts. Learning about algorithms through examples will prove to be a lasting one.

Should an architect know how buildings are built?

Hey guys, with UXPin, we've just launched a cool integration that lets designers use code benefits without knowing how to code. If you want to support, go here πŸŽ‰: https://www.producthunt.com/post...
