Hi Julia, aside from Slack, Loom, and productive online meetings (daily and weekly). The HR department plays a big role in crafting a tight remote team culture. In my last experience. I can tell you some of the strategies/activities that were used: + Organizing a weekly whole team hang-out meeting online, same day same hour. Optional to join. In these hangouts it was all about sharing things outside work. + In the weekly hang out, for example, one or more people had the chance to share some expert knowledge with the rest of the team like "how to prevent burnout" and we all got a chance to ask questions. (optional and voluntary) + There was also an ongoing presentation of one team member to the rest of the team. The person presenting chose the next one who would have to present, and so on + There was also a bot that created meetings with 3 random people from different departments and after everyone chose their best time and day, we would meet for 30min to get to know each other + There was a Friday survey about fun things to share like hobbies, food preferences, childhood memories, etc. The answers were published in a dedicated Slack channel + Activities I remember participating in: games like the hangman in groups, guess the location of international dishes, meme creation battles, 30min fitness classes like Desk Yoga with a personal trainer hired by the company... + Some team members created their own channels to share info about common interests: food, spirituality, weight-training, running, etc. + Also, the company organized (optional and visa compliant) annual retreats with team building activities, paid expenses, and educational conferences to attend. There are so many tools and games that can be used to create a positive culture within a remote team, it's just about having an empathetic HR team that makes time to think and organize this stuff.

Slack! Every 2nd or 3rd company is using slack for team collaboration.

Staying in touch in remote companies is like maintaining a long-distance relationship with your favorite keyboard shortcuts - communication is key, but emojis help too!
