Let's discuss our experiences. Maybe our stories will be helpful for people looking to break into remote work. My remote journey started about six years ago. I wanted to work as a developer without moving to a big city or moving abroad. I searched online job boards with remote positions but back then they weren't as plentiful as they are now. I was lucky with angel.co because I found a startup that had a remote team in my country and that's how I got started. For me what worked was being remote locally in the beginning and then with more experience I could expand internationally.

My experience, like many others, started with Covid. Believe it or not, being a religious runner actually helped me discipline and motivate myself while being separated from the rest of the world. I'd designed this mind map for myself where I would check stuff off a list in my head. I would then pat myself in the back and would set some very small goals for the coming days.

Before the Corona crisis, I was working as a software engineer in a local company, and with the current circumstances, the company stopped working. I became unemployed and it was difficult at that time to get a new job in my country, so I went to search for an opportunity through the Internet. As for today, I am a digital product maker and I am not looking forward to returning to the job after today

As for most the remote workers out there, my journey started with Covid. I went to some of the remotest places in South east asia and have worked there and had the best of career and personal life. Once the covid went away, I tried going to office 3 days a week while living in the city and absolutely hated it so took the decision to go remote with my own startup :)
