Do you expect a Front-End developer to know a lot about design?

I think it's a two-way street. The more designers know about front-end development as well in terms of suitability, timings, and restrictions, the better the communication. And the more fun working together when coming up with new projects, concepts and ideas. But I don't expect them to know it all – that's why the individual roles were hired for.

@katjaalissamueller Yup, not enough time to learn everything unfortunately. And now with LLMs gaining popularity we need to learn how to design text and voice interfaces :D

I'm a designer and front-end developer, in my opinion, it's important for designers to know at least how things work code-wise and what is and isn't possible. As for non-hybrid devs having design skills, just the bare minimum to be able to copy a design spec is enough.

@chris_sarca I like your opinion, if a designer has some code skills (at least CSS) it really speeds up work and cuts down on back and forths with developers. And for a front-end dev, it helps if they know some basic design stuff so they don't need to ask designers for every small thing.
