Hey guys, I did a Product Hunt launch that flopped. Any tips?

For those who have launched successfully or gotten about 100 upvotes on Product Hunt, what was your secret sauce? Did you build a community around the product first or did you rely on the PH copy for your launch? Any tip would help.

What I understand is that it's important to set a long period of time before your launch to generate communities around your product everywhere you can do it, and learn about existing communities where people share their products to get support. Thanks @michaelshver for the resource. I will definitely check it out. Yes, I think I did not do much work on creating some sort of reach out community. Would it be safe to say, that you need to have had some customers before using PH as an accelerant? I will also check out your company for the launch in May. Thanks.
