Is traditional classroom education enough to prepare students for the complexities of the real world, or should schools focus more on practical skills and real-world experiences?

Школа это только база. Практические навыки в современном мире можно получить только за пределами класса.

This is exactly what we need in the education space! Learning doesn't stop at the classroom door, and this platform seems like a game-changer for fostering continuous learning and growth. Excited to see how it evolves!

@zain_alam2 This is our mission! At KoThinker, we have a co-learning platform for product managers who wish to build impactful products and teams faster while having fun. It nudges you to experiment on the job with the skills you acquire from sharing failure stories, gaining situational feedback, and exchanging best practices. And also while there are trainings for adults, they're usually attended for three intensive days once a year. It's like looking for abs after one workout :) We need continuous learning and actually putting the learnings into practice! @zain_alam2 Absolutely agree! This platform's potential to extend learning beyond traditional boundaries is truly exciting.

@zain_alam2 @helen_kaljusaar This concept emphasizes the value of diverse learning opportunities, such as extracurricular activities, internships, and self-directed exploration. Education becomes holistic when it encompasses real-world applications and personal interests. In my opinion, traditional classroom education is definitely not enough. Lots of useful experience is gained through practice and facing real-life situations first and foremost. It's tough at times, but rewarding and gives you a better grasp at what you're trying to achieve. Not to mention, it boosts your character and mindset.
@sviridov Real-life experiences and practice add depth to learning that classrooms alone can't provide. They build skills, resilience, and character.

Yes, it should focus on practical skills, collaboration between colleagues and history is also important. People tend to forget pretty fast.
@oscar7 Continual learning emerging skills keeps us sharp and ensures important lessons stick.

In my view, as someone in education, traditional classrooms build core knowledge and critical thinking, but to tackle real-world intricacies, a mix of practical skills and experiences is vital. This equips students with adaptability, diverse perspectives, and career readiness.
@lokap_sahu Well said! It's about preparing students for the dynamic landscape ahead.

Education as a whole should be envisioned holistically: as said, it doesn't stop at the end of a lesson, it's a long process, often driven by curiosity, nurtured by some nudges.
@steve_lourdessamy Absolutely! Education is a holistic journey that extends far beyond individual lessons. It thrives on curiosity, continuously nurtured by gentle nudges. This broader perspective embraces lifelong learning and limitless growth potential.

I think both are extremely important. Through traditional classroom education, we not only learn the material but other life skills that are important. For example, we learn how to stay focused for long periods of time, we learn to listen, we learn how to analyze and understand large texts, and so on. These are great skills to have, however, they fall short because they are not paired with practical skills and real-world experiences.
@dennis_aronov You've highlighted a crucial point. Traditional classroom education indeed equips us with invaluable life skills that extend beyond the subject matter.

school is practically just babysitting and preparing children to be obedient and not free thinkers, a factory for factory workers. Public education was set up by Rockefeller. At least in the US. Learning how to learn, asking the right questions, and staying curious are critical skills that need to be hammered in. to be competitive, you need those skills and the only way to learn them is practicing them by teaching yourself, applying your knowledge, and teaching others. teaching others the knowledge you learn is such an overlooked part of learning.
@backseosoftware It's heartening to see this awareness grow and to recognize the many dimensions of learning beyond traditional classroom settings.

Learning in a traditional classroom has its limitations. It would make sense to have more practical knowledge and expertise. While some schools are making progress in this direction, more can be done.

We can learn more in our free space. Connecting with nature for creativity and youtube for exploring things that interest us. Curious how time will evolve everyone!!

Traditional classroom education and real-world experiences both play crucial roles in preparing students for the real world. Classroom education offers a structured foundation of knowledge, teaches you critical thinking, and helps with social interactions, while practical skills and experiences allow people to apply knowledge, develop adaptability, and enhance career readiness. Schools should focus on creating a holistic curricula, building assessments that focus on practical applications of the learnings.

I think practice is on of the best ways to study anything!
Traditional classroom education is definitely not enough when it comes to preparing for living on your own, dealing with everyday tasks and managing being independent. They don't teach you actual, useful skills. Only then, when you move out of your sweet family home you realize you are actually not prepared for anything. Not even mentioning managing finances etc.
Darya Antonyuk
Definitely not enough! With all the new skills, tools, and jobs that appear everyday, the best thing schools can do is teach you how to learn yourself. If you get stuck and stop learning at all, you'll fall by the wayside in a couple of years or even faster
@mani_abod It's my opinion improving yourself and learning, regardless if it is tied to a paper degree or not, is crucial and essential. I'll go even a step further and say if you are not pushing yourself to continuously learn new skills you are setting yourself up for failure. Embracing continuous learning is a great way to prepare and position yourself for opportunities that come your way. The fact is that 99.9% of what is taught in the classroom is easily accessible through multiple mediums and practical skills and real-world experience is not says it all. I have actually been working on a Study App whose focus is to help students and continuous learners change the old learning style of mastery through memorization and focus more on mastery through a foundational understanding of the subject so I am glad you brought up this question.
@david_mcanulty Thanks a lot for this helpful insights
@mani_abod anytime. I really like your focus on education topics. Feel free to reach out for my opinion at any time.

It is not enough, I must say. And I don't think there's any form of education that can prepare students for real-world experiences other than real-world experience itself. Learning goes beyond the classroom.
Elena Tsemirava
Definitely should. Theoretical training is certainly necessary, but there is not enough practice in school and university education and there should be more of it.
@elenat Absolutely, striking a balance between theoretical knowledge and practical application is essential in education
Kate
Classroom education alone is not sufficient; more practice is necessary.
