People with struggling with mental health usually hesitate to reach out for a professional support. Common reasons can be - social stigma, unable to perceive that external help is needed, financial causes or hesitation on sharing personal feelings to an unknown person. An AI bot could address many of the above problems and serve as the first level of psychological support. Do you think people would seek psychological support from an AI bot?

Hard yes.

I have a hard time listening to regular humans so I might find it too novel to listen to a computer program. But once the LLM has a human like bedside manner PLUS minimal bias and access to all historical human data/psychology texts/studies - It will be hard to make the case against AI.

Real psychologists just tell you to eat better and start running, so ig a bot can do that equally well

Are there any regulations in the USA that would prevent an AI bot from providing this service legally? I'm not sure if it would be considered medical advice, or if users could be required to agree to terms acknowledging that the AI bot's insights are not considered medical advice.

@nolan_makatche I don't think there are any regulations in providing services by AI bot unless they are claiming to provide medical consultation. Most bot like apps says "not to consider their services as a replacement of professional medical advice".

I don't think so. Psychology roots in our deepest cognitive, metacognitive, and emotional processes. It can never truly understand our feelings.

I completely agree with your point. AI bots could be a valuable resource for providing initial psychological support, especially for those who may feel hesitant or stigmatized about seeking help from a human professional. They offer a convenient and anonymous platform for individuals to express their feelings and receive guidance. It's crucial for individuals to have the option to talk to a psychologist, like the professionals available at Modern Recovery Texas in San Antonio, for more comprehensive and tailored support tailored to their specific needs. Overall, having multiple avenues for seeking help can only benefit those struggling with mental health issues.
