I've recently converted to dark mode and now it's taken over

Given the widespread adoption of dark mode options in native apps and web apps at this stage, I think it does. If your user is preferring dark mode and using it all day, they will have a jarring experience when using an app in light mode (and likely vice versa). It's one of those things where I think it might not have a big positive impact (= it's not a selling point), and users likely won't churn just because of lack of dark mode. But it will prevent a negative user experience, which would otherwise add up together with other things for the user to abandon the product. PS: I'm a light mode user, and still subconsciously definitely appreciate when apps give me the option 😄

@jburr90 agreed, especially on that they won't likely churn just because of lack of dark mode!

dark mode always, i can't read on white. we did a poll in our discord community and literally 99% (all buy 1) uses dark theme for their stock charts- can only imagine the same for their browser whether extension or the websites they use offer a dark theme

if it is indented for developers, yes, it does make a difference

@nikolas_dimitroulakis Absolutely! Tools like Linear, Liveblocks, and Raycast, default to dark mode. It's part of their brand as a reference to the byproduct of the technology available to early generations of software devs. Curious what product has a delightful dark mode from your POV? Would love your inputs in this Discussion — Thanks! 😸

Generally, we only see this for power users who want these features

Sure, your team can decide this amongst themselves, but many companies will offer lighter mode. Many have found it easier on the eyes to work in light mode.

@jenny_zhai Hi Jenny, great topic! For the record, @cristinaibunea recently shared a story on the topic here: Does your product actually need dark mode? It details two kinds of dark modes: The “performative dark mode” — Your product supports dark mode just because users requested it. OR your product supports dark mode because you care about accessibility, readability, and great UI/UX.
