'Cloud Cost' Problems...

Curious if the Product Hunt developer community is feeling pressure to cut their cloud costs and whether that is something that is cutting into your time focusing on feature development? If cloud costs are a problem, what specifically is causing your team to spend time on this issue?

I'm just a developer relations guy at our company but what I do know is that my teammates are very conscious about decision-making and design when it comes to costs of cloud operation. It also helps that we're a Microsoft For Startups Partner, this way using Azure isn't really increasing our costs. May I ask what is your project about, Brian?

@geri_mate thanks for the reply Gergely! I'm just trying to understand whether or not developers are dealing with increased pressure to reduce their cloud costs.. As far as my project, I did share a github repo that has SQL code for AWS developers to understand their billing data. I know you've said you're an Azure partner, so it may not be very useful for you right now, but if you have any feedback let me know! https://github.com/getmacroscope...

@geri_mate @brian_regan I apologize for jumping into this conversation, but I honestly believe that those problems are only relevant to the AWS consumers. That's because AWS (like amazon as well) is intentionally designed to have a bad UX towards making you spend more money with them. I've used AWS for a year, I'm never using them again 😅

@brian_regan We're no so picky with our tools, so AWS would be as interesting to us as Azure or GCP :) I'll show it to my teammates to see if they have any feedback, appreciate the link!

@geri_mate @ralic Very interesting take - I talk to users that also have this problem on GCP and Azure, but AWS seems to have the most complex billing by far. Thanks for the input!

Solutions architect here, usually cloud costs are a problem for startups. Where startups struggle usually are implementation and best practices for various cloud services.

Our team is using AWS Cloud, cost management has become a priority due to the unstable economy. We’ve tried out a couple of tools, now working with CloudAvocado. Seems like quite a decent tool, for now covers all we need from resource management, tagging, scheduling to recommendations on cost management.
