Are tools like ChatGPT good enough to write quality product documents? Have you tried it out? What were your results?

@catherine_norris We have actually tried to do exactly this with our tool. We have focused on working with the most common use cases for product management, including product documentation, and within our tool creating prompts for the AI depending on what you as a PM wants to do. For instance when creating a PRD, if you provide the tool with a name of the epic and a short description it will provide you with a draft of the PRD, including useful headings. I tried it out, and I found it pretty limiting unless your input is detailed and comprehensive, with significant data. I think AI is a good starting point for structuring these documents though, but they will need to be refined and curated into something valuable.

@catherine_norris The problem with tools like this is to provide them with appropriate understandng of your product or service which your trying to document and chatgpt does it if you continue in the same chat. We have done the same thing with our product askmiku.com. But if you provide all proper information and try to ask in series of prompts it can reduce your document creation process by atleast 50 - 70%, Rest you have to edit and format it for your use case.

For example, Chatgpt can assist with tasks such as outline content creation like the purpose and goal of a product feature, but still, it needs a lot of editorial work to create documentation. As users rely on documentation for help, you can't completely rely on an AI to generate the content. It is the source of truth for your users. I see AI tools can help with search and retrieval, and automating repetitive or time-consuming tasks. AI can also be used to analyze large amounts of data and customer feedback to identify trends and patterns that can inform the development of product documentation. It's also worth noting that AI technology continues to advance rapidly, and it is possible that AI will play an increasingly important role in product documentation in the future. However, the extent to which AI can be used effectively for product documentation is not really recommended at this stage.
