Any ideas on how to leverage PH and/or other communities to make friends with other makers?

Hello everyone! As someone relatively new to the community, I've been blown away by the creativity and drive of fellow makers. I'm eager to connect and build friendships with like-minded individuals who share my passion for building and making an impact. I'm curious to hear about your experiences connecting with other makers. How have you successfully made friends in the community, and what strategies or approaches do you recommend for someone new and looking to build meaningful relationships?

Be Honest. Appreciate what you can. (constructive) Criticize what you find odd or bad. I'd suggest YC Co-founder matching if you're looking to start a project with others. I didn't launch a single thing but I somehow got 160+ followers in a span of 2 or 3 months. At the start of the year, I had 50 followers, but somehow they just keep following me. I got no Idea how :) You can reach out to me for anything. My Twitter is linked.

@dreddy For the YC Co-founder matching, does it matter if you don't have any ideas? I'm really curious about this! Thanks in advance!

@renny_chan1 I just checked it out, and it has the question "Do you already have a startup or idea that you're set on?" where you can answer "No, I could help a co-founder with their existing idea or explore new ideas together." Hope this helps!

Hey, Maya. Connecting with other makers is great. Normally, Makers link their other socials on PH profiles and people talk on other platforms since PH doesn't offer dms. I've made some friends and mentors from Ph and it's awesome

+1 to above views by Yeshwanth and Elizabeth. 🌟 Similar story, specially if you focus on contributing honestly towards makers, launches, and discussions. 🚀

Hi Maya, From my experience to date, connecting with makers and understanding what they are building helps you foster your relationship with them. Keep engaging with other products and discussions on PH as it helps you in building connections.

Bonjour Maya 👋 Stay genuine and authentic when discussing launches and community posts (like you already do :) ). Feel free to add people on Twitter and Linkedin, because most makers are open to discussing, answering questions and learning. PH has changed a lot since the past years as it grew (some people are more looking for the ranking than anything), though you'll still find passionate and minded makers :)) You'll find my Twitter/Linkedin on my PH profile :) Have a good day!

Just as Yeshwanth said - YC co-founder matching is great! You can not only find a potential partner but also meet and talk to a lot of people from your field. Highly recommend :)

People are always seeking genuine connections. So, if your attitude is genuine and you interact truthfully with the makers content that will be positively received. You can also, add her/him on other social media and engage with her/him on multiple platforms. Once you start seeing your interactions developing, you can send a dm and get to chat through dm or zoom.

In that case, the sentence would be: Product Hunt (PH) doesn't have a direct message (DM) function, so you'll need to find another platform like Twitter that allows for DMs. Otherwise, it will be difficult to rely solely on Product Hunt.

sad that ph dont allow dm's would love to connect with all you guys on twitter! (https://twitter.com/nihalkothiyal) my dm's are always open!!

Yeah, I too like connecting with makers. Lately, I see so many people sending connection requests on LinkedIn but the sole aim of those connections are just for getting support fo PH launch. Even if I try talking about building/making stuff, they don't reply to it. So I'm not sure if people really want such connections.

Reach out on twitter!

For me it was just being very active on PH and putting a twitter + linkedin link. People will automatically start messaging you. And if they ask you to support their product, it pays to take 10 second out of your day to do so.

Great insights and ideas are already shared by fellow PHers. I would just add on to that - link your socials and personal website on your profile for people to reach out and connect. How do you get people to your PH profile? Engage in discussions, start your discussions, and comment on launches which you truly like and enjoy - the more specific and value-add you do the better.

A lot of great points have been mentioned here already, you can leverage those. I'd add you can try sharing your insights by commenting on questions or posts here and also being open to challenging your own ideas and assumptions. If a person has one's social media profile available feel free to send a connection request mentioning PH.

Great initiative! i am new to product hunt as well. Seeking to make new makers friends and connect. I am a maker with a strong technical background, looking to expand my distribution/acquisition skills. Happy to connect with you guys, my twitter account is linked with my profile as well

Candor and transparency go a long way. Everyone is trying to grow in one way or another.

I would recommend engaging with their content, supporting them if you are doing a launching or something and then sliding into their DMs. I follow this strategy to make friends in Twitter and it really works.
I've really enjoyed going to MeetUps

Hey Maya, I'm still getting acquainted with the platform myself, but I would love to be connected. I have been looking to make some buddies in the space, so I'd love to connect on social if you're open to it. :)
