AMA w/ Maker of the Year, Pascal Pixel! (ノ°∀°)ノ⌒💫

you probably know me from horse browser, but i ve been tinkering with design and html since the game boy color first came out!
before i even learned to code, i was making wallpapers & windows xp themes trying to win "daily deviation" awards on deviantart. when i *did* learn to code i built a pok mon battle with jquery right after coding my first working rock-paper-scissors game just so i could do battles on my kindle. later, i designed poolside fm s (now poolsuite) iconic icons, launched johto mono (formerly pok mon-font ) on product hunt, and kept making weird & fun experiments with design + ux at their core
thanks to the power of ai, i went from building websites to building a browser. horse is built with electron, and we re currently pushing hard to get extension support merged with the hope that once that happens, we ll see a wave of other niche browsers that help so many people
i say "help", because i could never get anything done with normal browsers, until i made horse, and to my surprise, i found that it's because i have adhd, and horse also helps other people with adhd letting them switch topics, come back to things later, and actually follow up. i m currently working on getting recommendations from therapists who are seeing how much horse helps their clients
ask me anything why i made horse, what being a super cool guy feels like, or whatever else you re curious about!
i ll be around all day answering questions ( ` )

Hunters on PH: Their role, prices and some basics

More and more I see questions about Product Hunt Hunters so I would cover this topic like a small FAQ. 1. Who is PH Hunter? Someone active or well-known on the platform, popular, recognized, and has a high follower count or a significant number of launched products. But even a maker can hunt the product if decides or someone else. 2. What is the Hunter responsible for?

Product Hunt is not a shopping mall, but a show/expo with new products every day

A common misconception among makers is that simply submitting a product here is enough to drive traffic and kick-start it.

Lessons Learned from My Product Hunt Launch 🚀 (Could’ve Been Better!)

Hey everyone, I recently launched my product, Lykoza, on Product Hunt, and let s just say it didn t go as planned. While I m grateful for the experience, it opened my eyes to areas where I could improve. Here s what I think I could ve done better: 1/ Engaged more with the Product Hunt community before the launch. 2/ Spread the word earlier to build anticipation. 3/ Focused more on crafting a compelling listing and clear value proposition. Now, I m turning to you all for advice: What s your best tip for nailing a Product Hunt launch? Let s make this a learning experience for everyone! Looking forward to hearing your insights!

best copywriting hack nobody tells you:

Here's the best copywriting hack nobody tells you: Ready? Write something that makes you uncomfortable. That s it. That uncomfortable edge is where your real voice lives. Because safe writing is boring. But risky, raw, oh sh*t, did I just say that? writing gets people to stop and notice. That goes for emails, SMS, or even your store s product descriptions. Nobody wants polished marketing speak. They want to hear from a real person.

I’m going to build in public

You know that person who upvotes every product but never comments? That s me. The eternal lurker. The silent observer. I ve been hiding in the shadows of every launch, every discussion thread. Reading everything. Upvoting quietly. Never jumping into the conversation. Engaging with makers? That makes my heart race. That s the introvert in me. But today, I m making a decision that scares me: I m going to build in public. No more hiding. No more silent scrolling. Why? Because I ve seen other makers share their real stories here. Their struggles. Their small wins. How they let this community be part of their journey. And it inspired me. It made me realize that we re all just figuring it out together. So, you ll start seeing regular updates about my product journey. The real, unfiltered version failures, progress, and lessons along the way. To my fellow introverts and lurkers out there sometimes the bravest thing we can do is press post. Will you join me on this journey?

What just happened to the voting that suddenly dropped by half?

All the top 3 products were above 500 and are now down by almost half.

Fake upvotes on discussions.

I feel like some discussions have fake upvotes. What do you think?

Sometimes the bravest thing isn't starting. It's starting again.

Someone once told me to skip the corporate life and join a startup instead. That advice changed everything. When everyone chased big company names after college, I chose chaos. I joined a startup. No fancy title. No clear path. Just pure excitement. 10 years flew by. And I wouldn't change a thing. The startup bug bit me so hard, I had to build something of my own. Reality check: Being a founder isn't like those Instagram success stories. You can't build a company on nights and weekends. It takes everything you've got. We built something. Launched it. Got customers. But that hockey-stick growth everyone talks about? Yeah... never happened. We had to switch lanes just to keep food on the table. Every founder knows this feeling. Sometimes Plan B pays the bills while Plan A stays a dream. But here's the thing about dreams: They don't die easily. So here I am in 2025. Ready to bet on myself one more time. Building a SaaS product, armed with all the scars and lessons from before. To every founder who's: Stumbled Gotten up Tried again I see you. I am you. The best founder stories don't start with "I made it on my first try" They start with "let me try one more time". Starting fresh in 2025? You're not alone. Remember: Sometimes the bravest thing isn't starting. It's starting again.

Predictions 2025 for Product Hunt and product directories

Please, take it with a grain of salt. PH already gave some beta-testers a verification badge due to bots: We can expect to be more cautious with whom we will interact in 2025. There will be a diversity in directories: As there are more and more products, companies or individuals will try to find ways to improve their marketing, visibility, and SEO  so they will start uploading to more PH-similar platforms. People start being cautious about launches. I have already received the same question from several people: "How can I make it to the "Featured" category?" People will start making differentiable products. (Hope so.) Do you have your own reckons?

Do you want to know the difference between CPU and GPU?

Yesterday a question popped into my mind after reading about the new Nvidia Digit supercomputer (which will retail at $3,000) and RTX 5090 GPU (which will cost $2,000), which was "Why do CPUs exist, if GPUs are so good?" or something like that. For non-professionals this is an interesting question, who are using gaming laptops/PCs in their daily lives for content creation and such. If you are wondering similar questions or someone in your circle is, this link will be helpful: https://codingstuff.substack.com...

[UPDATE] 10 days into building in public 🚀

Hi everyone! A few days ago, I shared my story here about starting again and deciding to build in public. The support from the ProductHunt community was incredible - thank you all. Quick update on my first 10 days: As I mentioned in my last post, I decided not to write a single line of code until I validated my idea and did some solid customer development. Here s what I ve been up to so far: - I posted in a few relevant communities to connect with potential users. - I had some great conversations, learning about real pain points and how people currently approach the problem. - I scheduled calls with a few potential customers, and the insights have been invaluable. Working with a daily to-do list has been so motivating. Honestly, this process reminds me of when we were doing some home construction a while back. Watching things come together step by step felt so satisfying. That s the same feeling I get now as I make progress toward validating and building this idea. So, what am I building? I m building a tool for content creators to find fresh, trending content ideas through smart curation not just generic AI suggestions. If you re a social media manager or someone who creates content, I d love to learn about your content ideation process and ensure I m solving the right problem. Would you be open to a quick 20-minute Zoom chat? Your insights would be a huge help! Thanks for being such an inspiring and supportive community!

Seeing myself in the code

I have noticed something since learning to code with AI and building our business. A reflection of the code within me. Hard to explain other than while I have worked out the bugs, organized the structure better, gotten more keen on how to ask for specific things and actually know what it does, it's changing me. Getting to know the code has made me feel more secure and free to explore technology in a creative way. To innovate and play within a structure I'm finally beginning to understand. What do you see in your code? Has it brought you misery, or do you delight in the build?
