I feel like I'm going against the trend here, but I'm not. Why? I'm launching a major update to my product this week (after 6 weeks back in dev) and I want to speak to existing users, hear what they think, and iterate on that. I feel like YC right now would be a distraction from the solid start I've made with this product so far. But, yes, in the future I'll consider it once I know where my...

"Don't let anyone else define success for you." This is a recent realisation, having spent way too long chasing $10K/MRR and other goals that, on reflection, I don't actually care about. Life's short – pick a journey that makes (most) days feel good. Sure nothing is ever always smooth, but a purposeful mission, humble desires, and a good work ethic makes every day feel meaningful... for me. I...

I absolutely do not have strict boundaries, but the truth is, I love "work" – and "work" certainly isn't the right word to use in my case. It feels more like people asking me about my hobbies, and I'm almost always happy to reply and/or help. I do think a balance is important though, and at times I feel the need for a rest, so I rest. Nothing is ever as urgent as we think it is :)

Very useful topic with lots of good info in the comments, thanks for posting this @busmark_w_nika. This question has been on my mind, as I hear that "there's no point unless you've already got a private list of people ready to upvote you", and I don't have this. Reading the comments, I'm encouraged it might be worth it for me too. 👏

Mine is only 14 days, but it has been fun checking in here and seeing what everyone is up to / thinking about. I intend to continue, whatever happens to my streak :) Streaks as an idea is quite a fun subject for me, as I implemented streaks in my own product (language learning). Some people hate them, and I get it. When streaks start to replace your intrinsic motivation, and become the target...

You're not alone @leonxue1 – I obsess over lots of tiny details in my product too, as I still believe in Good Software :) Similar to @howell4change I have tons of examples. I think a great product comes from an obsession about all of those details, but finding the perfect balance between which matter and which don't. And sometimes it matters to me (as a user of my own app), so I always make...

Love it. I'm going right over to FA to turn this on, as I do a ton of this all over SEA anyway :)

I've been watching this trend play out over a long time, so I'm quite sure, but here's my 2 cents: Centralised media, social media and other things aren't so normal for humans – we evolved in smaller communities and tribes, and when we're all put together, it's noisy, messy, even harmful. I think we're peak (or post peak) in terms of the opportunity of new centralised social media, or other...

I wish I had some tips or hacks, but I honestly think showing up as my authentic self in these platforms is the best way, especially now with so much AI slop. That does take a lot of time, though. I write on LinkedIn 4-5x/week, post on BlueSky, X, Mastodon and Instagram (and actually also a custom social network I built). It's time-consuming, but if you don't talk about what you're doing,...

I really enjoy anything where founders / teams are more human and tell stories of what they're working on, their experiences on this journey, and any BTS stuff.

Slightly different take: I can't think of anything worse than having such a valuable company as a single person. That's a lot of responsibility. It's, inevitably, a lot of "other jobs" I'd have to do. It's a lot of pressure, admin, attention, stress. Life's short. I'd much rather make my living costs + some humble buffer, know my customers by name, and gradually create value that never gets...

Yeah Jordan, I do! And it's a shame. I grew up on the 90's internet, where there was strong sub culture, art, lots of open source code, people making things for the fun of it. That spirit is how I do business, and love, care, attention and humble goals drive everything I do. I wish more people realised that true happiness comes not just from good outcomes (sometimes bad, in fact), but from...

To produce a sound inventory of the constructed language Esperanto and map it onto phonemes from Polish, so that I could generate (pretty good) text-to-speech for Esperanto by transliterating it into spoken Polish first. Bet nobody expected that one! PS: it did a good job and it resulted in a tool people use to generate Esperanto speech now!

Context: I've been a software engineer for a fairly long time, and I have a workflow that's hard-won and works well for me. I use the terminal heavily. I write code in vim. So, I'm a big fan of Claude Code because it's a CLI that sits in a terminal window and doesn't demand I change my existing workflow. I like this approach. Claude Code produces good results for me, and I love some of the...

Solo founders: how do you stay focused?
I'm currently a team of 1, and some days it can be hard (and lonely) to just keep grinding. Curious to hear from other solo builders here how you stay motivated and consistent over the long run? Things helping me a lot right now: Private community to share progress Lots of small releases Reaching out to current users to get more feedback and direct work Reminding myself that it sometimes just...

Better? I'd say that we're good at different things. The dictionary has more words than I do, but I use them better. AI has more patterns than I do, but I can create new ones that it has never seen. True innovation doesn't come out of AI alone because it requires creating something new, that wasn't there before. Humans are better at true creativity and art. AI wasn't build to do that. But...
