Did Appwrite do the ideal Product Hunt launch?

Appwrite last launched on Product Hunt a month ago. It was their fourth launch here, and they really nailed it:

  • #1 Product of the Day

  • #1 Developer Tool of the Week

  • #1 Developer Tool of the Month

What Appwrite did right

How do you collect feedback from beta users before your PH launch?

I have launched on PH twice but before launching, I always prefer to share the product with at least 20 potential users over DM. The goal is to get early feedback and testimonials. This helps me understand what s working (or not) in the copy, design, offer, value proposition, etc.
Based on those early insights, I iterate quickly and it could be small tweaks or full rewrites, depending on what people are saying.

To make it easy for them to say yes and share feedback, I create a no-brainer offer (like 70 90% discount) and DM potential users on X asking for feedback.
What s your pre launch strategy for collecting feedback and improving your product before launching on PH?
P.S. Here s a sample DM I use to get early feedback for Boringlaunch:
Hey [User Name]

We ve just launched (product name) for [Industry/Category/Domain/Target Audience]

It might be a great fit for your [product name].

What kind of apps would earn you more money?

I see a lot of tech products on Product Hunt that are meant to improve someone else's business situation, and as many makers as possible are ideally targeting the B2B market.

However, this past week I've also seen a lot of "fun" products that not only made it into the featured category but also earned one of the product of the day titles.

Apps that push you to create?

Last week, I downloaded and purchased @AgBr after seeing it on the homepage. Its design and super specific goal just immediately clicked with me. I love black & white photography, and this was a really interesting and approachable way to experiment with it; even though I've never been much of a photographer myself. I'm usually just appreciating others' photos.

But then, over this past weekend, I noticed that I kept feeling compelled to take pictures throughout my day so that I could play around with different filters and try out different levels of film grain on them. Having the tools to create was suddenly making me look for more and more opportunities to use them.
