Have your ever overestimated your numbers while starting you distribution journey?

While I was starting distribution of my first saas, one thing which I overestimated was that the sales would happen very quickly as the product I made was good enough for it. Turns out, the product did not even had a market fit. I also ran ads with a very small budget and thought it will easily be gained within a few days, and I was very wrong here.

AI also does the same thing. If you ask it to expect some numbers based on what people experience for your saas when you distribute with some method X, it will show some very aspirational numbers. But, when ask it to be honest or practical or brutally honest for the same, it's answer changes (in some cases, significantly).

Podcast playlists you can share with strangers. What would you curate?

Parasocial launched here yesterday as a podcast player. Thank you for the comments and the upvotes. The next major release adds the second social layer, and I would rather shape it with you than announce it as finished.

What is coming:

Public playlists. Any playlist you build in the app can be published as a page anyone can open, follow, and play from, with or without the app.
Curator profiles. A handle, a display name, a short bio, and the playlists you have specifically published as "public". Follow a curator and their new playlists show up in a Curate tab: Following, Curated by You, Discover.
No likes, no comments, no algorithmic feed. Curation is the whole feature: a person with taste pointing at episodes.

🔓 Do products benefit from being open source?

We re not building an open-source product ourselves, and that s exactly why we thought - let s talk about it =)

Open source can bring a lot to a product: transparency, community, trust, contributions, and sometimes a completely different way of building distribution.

But it also comes with its own challenges.

You re opening the code to everyone. Others can build on top of it, fork it, or even create competing products. And if the product is a business, there s also the question of how you actually monetize it ?
