Building AI tools that kill middlemen

About

I got tired of paying recruiters $20K to send me candidates I could've found myself if I had 40 extra hours a week. So I built the tool instead. Shortlist is an AI recruiter for sales roles. You describe the hire you need, it sources real, qualified candidates and delivers them to you. SDRs, BDRs, AEs. No agencies, no per-hire fees, no LinkedIn doom-scrolling. We only do sales hiring right now because we'd rather be great at one thing than mediocre at ten. Free to try.

We just shipped Krisp’s #1 requested integration. Can you guess which one?

Our users have been asking for this integration since day one, especially after Krisp added an AI note taker to its Voice AI app. In fact, it got 6x more votes than the second most-requested integration.

Which naturally leads to the next question: why did it take us so long to build?

Is VC funding losing its appeal for founders in the era of AI?

A few years ago, getting a VC check was the ultimate shortcut. The fastest way to scale. The signal that you'd "made it." But with AI is a little bit different.

Global VC funding declined 30% in Q1 2024. One of the lowest quarters since 2018. And bootstrapped startups are quietly catching up. Recent data shows bootstrapped businesses are growing as fast as VC-backed startups, while spending only about one-quarter as much on customer acquisition.

Would you stay on a sales call if you knew you were being recorded without consent?

I was on a call with a founder and they asked me to turn on my camera on Google Meet.

I said no citing that they have brought in the call recorder without my consent. I consent for voice recording and summarizing, not video capture.
