I knew zero coding. Now I’m building a tech platform with Codex + Claude Code 🙈

A while ago, I was working as a nail technician with absolutely zero coding knowledge. My first website? Built with ChatGPT guiding me step by step. Lots of screenshots, endless questions, mistakes, fixes repeat. Fast forward to today, and I m building my own digital marketplace and AI-powered tools using Codex and Claude Code. I even created a bridge between the two coding assistants so they could work together on development and technical audits. Am I a programmer now? Not even close! But I ve learned more about HTML, JavaScript and software development than I ever thought I would. The funny thing is, I never planned to get into tech. It all started because I didn t want to pay a monthly subscription for a digital storefront. Has AI helped you learn something you never imagined you d be able to do?

Did you go global from day one, or win your local market first?

Most founders in Japan do the second one. Start in Japan and only once it works, head overseas. I did the same for 22 years. All of my business was in Japanese, for Japanese customers.

Part of it is the language wall, most Japanese people don't read English online, and if you Google something in Japan, you are very unlikely to come across anything from the English-speaking world. Japan is open to the Internet, but the information-world is pretty closed off.

The notes file solved my issue with re-explaining everything to the AI code writing software.

Each coding session would begin the same way. I would copy over the stack, tell the AI the reasons for choosing Postgres, and repeat the naming conventions again. It was like having to onboard a new employee each time.

I now have a file named NOTES.md in the root of every project that I have. The file contains four things - the purpose of the application, the stack, decisions made with the reasoning behind each in a single line, and the parts that are currently incomplete. Claude Code reads this file in the beginning and I ask it to update the file before the session ends.
