“I Got 100 Rejections and Raised $850K”: Sergey Bakaev’s Fundraising Playbook — Unicorns Journal

We just published one of the most honest and practical founder interviews we've ever featured in Unicorns Journal.

It s the story of how Sergey Bakaev, co-founder of LovOn, raised $850K after hearing more than 100 rejections with no network and no previous fundraising experience.

A brutally honest, step-by-step breakdown of what pre-seed fundraising actually looks like behind the scenes the pressure, the tactics, the mistakes, and the breakthroughs.

Top takeaways:

How can you use Product Hunt to increase your credibility and popularity?

I ve mentioned several times that I see Product Hunt as a social platform, and I can say that over the past almost 3 years, it has helped me in several ways, for example:

Meeting founders and finding a community where I feel among ambitious people
Getting first access to innovative tech products
Gaining publicity being regularly present made me more visible

So how can all of this be converted into increased credibility?

Hey PH 👋 I’m Justin - product designer turned SaaS founder (and fresh dad trying to find sleep 😅)

Hey Product Hunters

I m Justin, a product designer with ~15 years of experience building digital platforms - and more recently, SaaS startups. Last year, I launched an AI product in the relationship space. And for the past 10 months, I ve been working on my next big challenge:

TallySpark - an AI-powered accounting platform for freelancers and small businesses (beta waitlist just opened).

I started it because I got sick of filling out forms, chasing invoices, and wasting hours on admin when I could be building or playing with my 13-month-old son (who currently sleeps better than my Github repo ).

Do you focus on monetisation and distribution before actually building your product?

On Twitter, I often come across impulsive builders. They get an idea, build it quickly, and then feel disappointed when nothing sells.

(Just because a creator has identified a problem in himself, it doesn t mean there s a big enough sample experiencing it.)

join me to noscroll

Hello Everyone,

I was spending way too much time on youtube as it is an amazing platform which provides so much value as well as so much distraction. Blocking the app will blcok the whole ecosystem so i thought what if i can selectively watch only what i want to watch without any intruption.

I know you can create playlist but that still will keep you inside app with its algo and ads.

So i made noscroll-tv.web.app where i can wtach youtube and save content videos, organise and still focus on what i want to do.

What are your biggest struggles/fears when you want to launch a product?

A few days ago, we discussed how difficult it was for me, for example, to create my first product.

In many cases, people struggle with money. But I believe that with the mass adoption of AI, many things can now be done at a relatively low cost.

What do you think about getting your daily news as a 2-minute WhatsApp audio?

Hey everyone

We re building Snipn, an AI-powered WhatsApp experience that sends you a short 2-minute audio news update every morning. It s simple, human-sounding, and available in 100+ languages across 50+ countries.

The idea came from how cluttered and noisy news apps have become. We wanted something calm, fast, and truly useful the kind of update you can actually finish before your coffee.

You can listen to a sample on our website before subscribing, and we d love to hear your thoughts.

The fundraising copilot for cracked founders

I was a PM at a startup that scaled to $12m ARR we connectd founder to advisors and investors but had to drop the investor side.

Now...I'm taking a different approach using a RAG database and an AI copilot interface to bring a new age of startup fundraising to founders.

What kind of physical work would you do to relax? (Explained more in the thread)

Yesterday, in a few Reddit forums and generally from the discussions around me, I noticed that people are "tired" of office work.

Either too much routine or exaggerated demands on creativity and the like. Mostly, these are people who are paid well and can afford to "leave" their jobs to explore, relax, do something else.

Hi, I'm Stefan, an aspiring Founder and Software Engineer

Hey all,
Product Hunt looks like a good place to be. I'm looking to become a founder and work for myself rather. I don't have a product at the moment, I'm collecting user pains, trying to find a way I can truly help people through software. If I help one person, I'm happy.
Good luck to you all! Always happy to have a chat
Stefan

Which pricing model is working for you?

For years, SaaS pricing revolved around seats.

If you're adding more teammates then pay more.

This was simple, predictable and scalable.
