Hey PH š
WildCamp started as a tool for exactly one user: me.
Every trip planning session looked the same. iOverlander for crowd-sourced pins, onX Offroad to see if the road was even legal and where the trail actually went, GaiaGPS layered over MVUM to check the motor vehicle rules, and Google Earth to eyeball whether the last two miles would eat my rig. Four tools, five tabs, and I'd still get out there and find the pullout was trailer-only or the road had washed out two seasons ago.
None of those tools are bad ā I still use all of them. But they're all maps with filters, and a filter can't tell you that "high clearance" means one thing for a 4Runner and something else entirely for a 40ft fifth wheel. The synthesis was always the part I was doing manually, in my head, at 11pm on a Thursday.
So I built the opposite: you describe the trip in plain language, it asks follow-up questions (vehicle, group size, how far from people you want to be), and comes back with scored suggestions plotted on a map you can click through.
Honest about what it is: each search checks public land boundaries (USFS/BLM, Canadian parks, European protected areas), recent fire data, elevation and OpenStreetMap roads, then Claude weighs the results against your rig. It doesn't know today's road conditions or closures, so verify with USFS or BLM before you drive out. It's a starting point that replaces the tab-juggling, not a replacement for onX or Gaia once you're actually rolling ā and the app says so on every screen.
Pricing upfront: 5 free searches a month and 3 saved spots. Pro is $20/year or $3.99/month: unlimited searches, trips with routes, and GPX/KML export. AI calls aren't free and I'd rather charge a little than bolt on ads.
Where it's weak: coverage thins out in the Northeast and anywhere dispersed camping is genuinely scarce, and it won't know your secret spot. I've been stress-testing the ugly cases ā BLM's 14-day rule, group size limits, fire bans, "I want remote but also cell service." If it whiffs, paste me the exact query and I'll dig in.
