Hello world! 👋 We are Sandoche and Patricia, from France 🇫🇷 and Spain 🇪🇸 We love travelling and when we travel we like to experience the places we visit as a local would do ✈️. Of course, one of our favourite things to try when travelling is the local food and we always end up looking in google for the best dishes that are a must try.

Hello ProductHunt! 👋 We are Sandoche and Patricia, from France 🇫🇷 and Spain 🇪🇸 We love travelling and when we travel we like to experience the places we visit as a local would do ✈️. Of course, one of our favourite things to try when travelling is the local food 😋. One day we were thinking that with all the friends we have around the world 🌍 it would be super good idea to gather them all together into one place to share their delicious food of their countries and to get to know them also a bit better. This is why we built 'What to Eat in' This is not a complete list of dishes of the world, this is a list of friends and their personal tastes and recommendations 🤝 We hope you like it ❤️! and of course, if we missed your favourite dish don't hesitate to contact us! we will add your dish and your name to the contributors list! Keep always travelling and trying new foods! 😋🍪

Hey, This is just fantastic and great to see 'Kerala Sadhya' on list. Happy to host your team when in Kerala, India. That said, I noticed the website is PWA. Consider checking PWA 2 APK? It's free and I love to keep this app on my phone when traveling. Onwards and upwards!
Sandoche
@felix_josemon Hi Felix! Thanks for your comment! I actually tried (for another app) to follow this tutorial: https://medium.com/@firt/google-... At the end Google Play rejected my app and it was required to have the latest Chrome installed to work. Is it also like this with your app? it needs internet to load the first time right? Have you tried to push on of your app?

@firt @sandochee I see. Strange. Our users were successfully able to upload them and got approved on play store. Feel free to DM incase if any issue arrises while converting PWA to APK for What to Eat in:)

I thought of this yesterday, and I see this today in Product hunt! Nice list.

@patricia_mayo1 I'm from India. Living in Berlin. I can definitely suggest some must try dishes. I'm travelling a lot these days and I have to search for what to eat in every new city - In long run you could also make it city wise, rather than country wise - since for larger countries, that would make more sense.

As a MVP, it's great. Some suggestion though if you allow me : - It would be great to be able to filter the meal by diet type. I know that you already have tags, but having a little icon saying that this meal is vegan/vegetarian can be also very usefull. - I think for this to be a killer webapp, we should also have recipes
Sandoche
@thibault_roussel1 Thanks Thibault! Both ideas are pretty good, we will look at them!

Awesome, will be useful when I finally become a nomad. Think it would be nice if you had a list of the best places to find this food as well (yelp api?).
Patricia Mayo
@dkb868 that's a really good idea! and because the recommendations are made from real locals they can maybe show hidden gems in the city, that are usually unknown to tourists! I have to say also that while we were building the list, our friends were thinking very often on their grandmother's food 😋and not in real restaurants hahaha
Dmitri Kyle Brereton
@patricia_mayo1 solution: pivot to grandma food delivery service

@dkb868 hahahah omg amazing idea hahahah

@dkb868 @patricia_mayo1 It's a bit of a conundrum. I was looking through the section on Belarus, where I've lived off and on for the last 7 years. Most of the standard local dishes are there, but the problem I see is that many restaurant variations of these dishes are relatively low quality. So if someone was visiting here and they want to eat good food out in Minsk, I'd probably recommend them to a newer restaurant that doesn't focus so much on these tired traditional dishes. I think google is edging into this space with their local guides functionality that will (I assume) eventually be integrated into maps as they become more interactive. I'll keep an eye on this and would definitely add some location suggestions if that is added in the future.

That can be the first thing to check when you land in a country, before looking at Yelp and other platforms.

Pros:

Amazing resource for travelers and nomads.

Cons:

There needs to be more countries and details covered in the future.

Farbod Saraf
This is the first resource I look up when I land into a country while traveling. It gives you a better idea of what to look for in Yelp and other foodie platforms. Would be great to see more contents in the future, maybe you can make it a platform and people can contribute from every country.
Sandoche
@farbodsaraf Thanks Farbod for hunting!

@farbodsaraf This looks so helpful--especially considering how it could create a community for food lovers to share their knowledge.
