vhr-bench is a free, open-source command-line tool that measures what a Linux VPS actually delivers: processor throughput and memory bandwidth via sysbench, and random 4k read/write IOPS via fio. It is a single readable Bash script. It prints the exact JSON it will send and asks for your confirmation before anything leaves your server. It never collects your hostname, IP, files, or credentials. Upload a result to compare your box against real ones from other people's servers.

I lead backend and infrastructure at a Fortune 50 company, which is exactly why picking a
VPS for my own side projects kept annoying me. Every "best VPS" list is ranked by whoever
pays the biggest commission, and a spec sheet tells you nothing about what a box actually
does under load. Two hosts sell you "2 vCPU / 4 GB" for the same money and one of them is
three times slower on disk.
So I built two things.
vhr-bench is a free, open-source CLI you run on your own VPS. It is one readable Bash
script: sysbench for processor throughput and memory bandwidth, fio for random 4k read and
write IOPS.
Since I am asking you to run something as root, please read the script first. It is linked
below and it is short. It prints the exact JSON payload and waits for your confirmation
before anything leaves your server. It never sends your hostname, your IP, file contents,
or any credentials.
VPS Host Review is where those results live, next to customer reviews scored across six
dimensions: pricing, performance, reliability, support, ease of use, and value. Every
matchup gets a side-by-side comparison and a clear verdict.
On the money question, because it matters on a review site: some outbound links earn a
commission. That has zero effect on rankings. Scores come from customer reviews alone,
there are no paid placements, and no provider can buy a better position. Benchmark figures
publish as medians and only once a provider has several independent results, so no single
person, me included, can move a number.
Being honest about where this is: the review corpus is small and the leaderboard is still
filling up. That is exactly why I am here. If you have a VPS sitting around, I would
genuinely like to see what it scores.
