Great & very useful website! π
Here are just some quick thoughts for improvements in the future:
- it would be cool to have a "fast"-option which just checks the top 5 to 10 sites
- it would be great if you'd make the "doesn't exist" results more readable
Congratulations Vlad on the launch! Is very to use UserBuddy.
I just type the username i want and in less then 1 minute the search does for me and the results is shown. Well done for making this amazing simple tool!
As @anthemaker noted, I think the doesnβt exist format should change. Maybe remove the strike through on all entries. Unknown could remain in red, doesnβt exist could change to green. And maybe change the wording for doesnβt exist to available.
awesome tool i'm sure i am going to use in the future multiple times :) it would be cool if you could just select which services you do/don't want searching in order
Great tool for finding available username, Vlad! It helps generate a list of username that are already available on the Internet, so I know which one to use. Thank you for making this @vlad_arts :D
Absolutely love the product! I've found myself in the situation of not having access to my handle before, so this will be a great way to source opporunities in advance π
Hey @vlad_arts , this is great! Super useful and a smart idea.
Some concrete UX/dev suggestions:
- Switch the styling for exists and doesn't exist (if I'm using the app to check a username, I probably want it to highlight where my username isn't used, and strikethrough where it's already taken).
- Change the "unknown" to maybe a yellow pill with black text. That way you can see where it truly is unknown versus doesn't exist.
- Add "target=_blank" to your links in the list. This way they'll open in a new tab and I won't have to wait for it all to reload if I forgot to hold the β key.
The rest would be a little more involved to address:
- You don't need to route everything through existence.php. If this gets popular that could exponentially increase the load on your server and you might DDoS yourself. At the very least bundle them all up together and only ping the server with one request per person.
-- Use `fetch(url).then(response => response.ok)` for a boolean on whether the page responds with a 200 - 299. (Might need to turn cors off or use XMLHttpRequest).
- Use localStorage, CacheStorage, or IndexedDB to store results for a username. It'll lower the hammering of requests to the server for the same username over and over.
- Show the full results list and use a loading gif for each site, that way you can populate the results one at a time instead of waiting for them all to get done before showing any.
Like I said, purely just suggestions for places of improvements. Really slick and wonderful how it is, though!
