Prevent Twitter from over-compressing your images

Twitter recently made it so that any tweeted image gets a ton of ugly JPEG compression added to it... The exception is, if you upload a picture with transparency in it. This app takes any image you drop on it, and gives it back to you as a PNG with one pixel at 99% opacity, which is enough for Twitter to consider it "a transparent image".

What do you think? …

Clever hack. I presume you could turn this into a Chrome extension so that every photo uploaded to twitter.com is non-compressed.

Thanks for hunting @jlft this is a pretty useful tool, how did you stumble upon it? 🐣

@abadesi Googled. :) This technique is used by the pixel art community since some time ago. The first mention I found about this: https://twitter.com/J_KMOR/statu... Then, RavenWorks made this tool: https://twitter.com/ravenworks/s... More information: https://twitter.com/pixel_dailie...

Now I understand why so many of my photos look like shit on Twitter! (I mean, I'm sure Twitter has their performance reasons for doing this — given the high pixel-count photos taken by today's phones), but this is a clever way to prevent Twitter from ruining them...!

So its just a jpg to png converter?

I wish I could have used this, however it wont really let me.

Pros:

Good idea.

Cons:

I only get a network error message. But my network is ok.
