I’ve tried a few travel apps over the years, but they all had one thing in common: they expected me to remember to use them while I was traveling. I never did.

What makes Traviary different is that it works with the photos you already have. I granted access to my photo library, and within minutes it reconstructed trips I’d completely forgotten about. Seeing my travels organized into timelines, maps, visited cities, and statistics was surprisingly nostalgic.

The fact that everything runs entirely on-device is another huge plus. No account, no cloud upload, and no worrying about where my photos are being sent.

What I like

Zero manual work—no planning, check-ins, or journals.
Beautiful interface with interactive maps and travel statistics.
Fast analysis, even with a large photo library.
Privacy-first approach with all processing on the iPhone.
It helped me rediscover trips and places I hadn’t thought about in years.

Overall, this feels like a genuinely new approach to travel journaling rather than another trip planner. If you’ve been traveling for years but never documented your adventures, Traviary is definitely worth trying.

What needs improvement

I’d love to see the app generate short travel recap reels automatically from my trips. Since Traviary already knows where I traveled and has all the photos, it would be amazing if it could create beautiful shareable videos for Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube Shorts with just one tap.

vs Alternatives

Polarsteps

Polarsteps is great if you remember to start tracking a trip before you leave. Traviary is different—it works with the trips you’ve already taken. I liked that it automatically rebuilt years of my travel history from my photo library without requiring any planning, check-ins, or manual journals. The fact that everything stays on my iPhone was the deciding factor.
