passwordless logins and passkeys are the future of authentification. Google recently let you access your account with passkeys rather than passwords, and Apple announced last June it will automatically assign an Apple ID passkey for users with iOS 17 and macOS Sonoma (source: TechCrunch). The Passkey Journey is a free tool that helps you get a clear, customized report with expected UX flows and recommendations. go passkeys!

@fmerian thanks for the hunt! absolutely and Google has published research that shows authentications with passkeys are 4x more likely to succeed and 2x as fast as passwords. We're super excited about the potential of passkeys!

Hi Product Hunt! I’m with Beyond Identity, where we're making the easy button for passkeys so you can ship the best authentication on the planet for your users, in the least amount of time. We’re so excited to introduce: The Passkey Journey! Here’s the thing, passkeys are powerful! They are the first and only authentication method that is both extremely easy for users (no passwords, just local biometrics), and extremely secure (phishing-resistant). But, they’re also challenging for developer and product teams to deploy. The Problem: Passkeys rely on a users’ device and browser supporting a standard called WebAuthn. Turns out a surprising number of users can’t use passkeys today which leaves devs, designers, and product managers scrambling to solve 30+ permutations of user experience possibilities. The Solution: we built this free developer tool in a week, during a company Hackathon, that shows you exactly what your users’ experience will be like when you introduce passkeys. With The Passkey Journey, you can:
  • 📊 See the exact percentage and number of users who can use passkeys
  • 👀 Click through UX prototypes to see exactly how your users will experience passkeys
  • 📬 Share your custom report with one-click
  • ⚒️ Get deployment recommendations and ready-made passkey libraries (yes, they’re Beyond Identity SDKs!)
  • In our first 48 hours live, we received 25+ pieces of feedback from developers and product folks, thousands of visits, and customers already using their free reports. Even Reddit was nice, which really restored our faith in humanity! We’ve implemented the feedback, and are proud to share an even easier to use version. Thank you so much for checking us out! I love Product Hunt and the community here. We'll be here all day and would love to hear what you think! After all, we’re building this for you. 🙏

Can a bootstrap startup use this or is it only for bigger companies?

Congrats on launching @jingg_n_tonic and team! 👏 I had no idea that this was a problem that existed. I had a read through your site and think it's awesome you're releasing this to the world for free 👏 As a product manager, I could potentially be your target audience for this tool and not yet know it. For instance, I've managed auth for websites in the past, but don't at the moment. When I visit your site, I think it'd be useful to take the problem up a level into "explain like I've 5" territory and simplify the problem statement a bit. The animated gif on the hero of the https://www.beyondidentity.com/ site would even be super useful. "Understand what % of your users are able to experience this auth experience before prioritising it". Also, and this may be intentional, but given this is a security product and your company (https://www.beyondidentity.com/) is already established in the market, I think it'd be good to show the Beyond Identity branding a bit for instant trust/social proof. What sort of % of users are able to use WebAuthn at the moment, and what does the trajectory look like? I'm wondering if it's an obvious thing for teams to prioritise if they care about auth/ux/security, or if there's still simply too high a % of users who can't yet use it?
    Jing Gu
@joetannorella Joe this is incredible feedback, thank you so much! The percentage varies from industry to industry. One of our users saw that only 1% of their users couldn’t use passkeys with biometrics whereas another user saw that 30% of their user base couldn’t use passkeys with biometrics (their interpretation is that this percentage was attributed to their global presence and older population). In general, WebAuthn is a commonly supported standard but when PMs and dev build for passkeys, it’s good to make informed decisions and plan ahead for all different types of UX scenarios which is why we made the tool! Passkeys are here and companies are adopting it rapidly so the time to integrate is now. We’re seeing an enterprise a week announcing support for passkeys!
