My brother married a Japanese woman. When she first came to meet my family, my brother sat between my parents and her and translated both ways all night. He barely ate.

So I built an app for my own family. I had one rule from the start. Getting my parents to install one new app and sign up once took me 30 minutes, so only one person installs Tablow. Everyone else scans a QR code and reads the conversation in their own language on their own phone. No app, no sign-up.

Before the wedding, both families had dinner with an early build on the table. For the first time, they laughed together without my brother in the middle.

Then I heard that when she video-called my parents, she held the call on one phone and a translator app in her other hand. So I added video calls. The other side joins from a browser link, and both screens show captions in each person's own language. Now they just talk.

Our family group chat is full of videos of my daughter, all in Korean, and my sister-in-law couldn't follow them. So I added Media Captions, which puts live translated captions over videos playing on your phone.

Every feature started at our own table. It's on iOS and Android, and guests join from any browser. Audio is never stored, transcripts are stored encrypted, and rooms are deleted after 7 days.
