The wait for Things 4 is over, sort of. A free, open-source MCP server + local dashboard for Things 3 (macOS). Give Claude or any AI agent safe hands on your tasks: reads are read-only, writes go only through Things' official URL scheme, so an agent physically can't corrupt your data. Plus the Kanban boards, Eisenhower matrix, day time-blocking, and ⌘K palette Things never shipped. Companion, not a replacement. MIT, no cloud, no account.
This is genuinely the Things 3 companion I've been hoping someone would build. The read-only safety guard is the right call, that was my main hesitation with letting agents near my tasks. One thing I'd love: a way to set up approval prompts before any write action fires, so I can review exactly what an agent is about to create or move before it hits Things. Even better if the prompt shows the diff inline.

Finally something that fixes my biggest Things 3 gripes without making me paranoid about AI messing up my data. The ⌘K palette alone is honestly worth it, been wanting that for years.

Quite cool idea actually, and quite smart to keep reading read-only, writing thru Things own URL scheme. Kinda feels like there’s basically no way for an agent to mess up your database compared to most other tools. Good stuff!
