Hi guys! @surgeapp team here! We are super excited to appear on @ProductHunt! Surge connects gay and bi men around the world through matches. Mutual attraction is crucial. So instead of sifting through hundreds of unwanted messages you chat with men you like. You can also send ephemeral snaps, add private photos and link your Instagram. We realized that often people need much more than just a 'hook up' but no one is really focusing on providing the community with both options on one platform. We did research in the gay community in San Francisco to understand user behavior on all of the other apps as well and found out that Grindr seems to be used mostly for 'hook up' while Tinder is used rather for dates like going to movies or dinner. That was one of the aha moments for us because that's the opposite of how straight people use Tinder. And then there's Scruff, Growlr etc.. catering more niche audience. We started thinking how do we provide the community with a tool, that would not only help them meet right now but also have the dating experience if that's what they're looking for. It's an ongoing process and a lot more research in front of us but we love being involved in the community, listen and experiment with new features. It's a social experiment and ongoing process.
