Hey All - Sen from Superb here. I head up BD/Community and have been with the Grubwithus team since the early days. I'm glad some of you had a chance to check out our new app.
@mulligan - thanks for the design compliments and I totally see where you + @rrhoover are coming from. Our end goal remains the same: use online to facilitate offline interactions. With Superb, we're trying to build an intent graph that shows you places your friends want to go, places they've been and places you have in common, so you can go out and experience them together. But in order to accomplish this, we need your friends to use the app as well. We're still in the early stages, so we appreciate any and all feedback. Definitely hope we can convince you to open the app again in the near future!
To build on what @malaparte said, I think the key interaction (at this point) is the hardest to do.
Right now the main UGC you need is people saying what places they've liked. I imagine at this stage that's the best info you can get.
But that requires too much. Here's what I mean:
1 When I'm swiping, my finger is usually mid-phone
2 When I like something, I need to move my finger to the bottom center and tap
3 After i tap, I'm asked a question i need to answer by moving my thumb to the top of the screen.
4 Then, I need to tap AGAIN in the top right
I think you need to figure out how to turn that into 1-2 steps.
Just my 2 cents
Superb's previous startup was Grubwithus (more details here), a group dining service. I enjoyed meeting likeminded strangers and sharing a meal, using the service three different times, but it wasn't something I used regularly. Curious to hear the story behind the pivot.
This product is really pretty (LOTs of design inspiration from Medium). I feel like it's the type of product I download, check out once, and never use again.
The reason is similar to my logic with Drawer. I'm sitting here making a list of places I recommend, but not really getting much value out of it in exchange. Maybe I will in the future, but I dont get that sense right away.
@mulligan - I have the same feeling but I'm also not a foodie that likes to frequent restaurants.
Report
Superb has potential to replace the soon-to-be-shut-down Ness on my home screen. That said, it doesn't feel like the Tinder-inspired UX is taken far enough currently. E.g., once I swipe left/right, I'd like to have the next recommendation brought up, rather than having to swipe up to see it.
