Starcraft was one of the first PC games I owned. I asked for it for Christmas (in 1998, I think) and anxiously waited for December 25th. After rummaging through gifts under the tree, a boxy package caught my eye. After my parents went to bed, I carefully unwrapped the gift to confirm my suspicions. It was Starcraft and Christmas day couldn't come sooner, I thought.
I killed soooo many hours into Starcraft (and threw several curse words at my unreliable dial-up connection while playing online) and almost burned the house down because of it (that's another story). The game is incredibly well-balanced and holds up 16 years later.

@rrhoover Totally agree! I had a similar Christmas experience on this one. Every time I play Cards Against Humanity these days I have to smile whenever I pull the "You must construct additional pillions" card (and then I have to explain the reference to my friends, haha). One of the best video games ever made in my opinion.
@rrhoover Starcraft, Red Alert 2, and Age of Empires II are, to this day, the only things that I have ever woken up before 8am willfully to do. I think I played a game every morning before school in 5th grade.

@alexschiff@rrhoover Did you guys ever play Dune 2000? Another good one from '98, and a really underrated game.
