Not too long ago, we almost went bankrupt waiting for our first local government contract to close.
Crazy part is, the agency wanted to buy from us! Our champion wanted to move forward. The budget was there. The deal made sense for them.
But the procurement process---legal, compliance, IT, security, vendor onboarding---took months. We were a small startup trying to navigate a workflow designed for huge vendors with legal teams and contracting officers, who can afford to wait 6-12 months. We were constantly blindsided by new requirements, unexpected redlines, and long periods of silence.
