What do you think? …

Ryan Hoover
Useful source of inspiration. I'd add every video from @lonelysandwich. ✨
Yann Lhomme
@rrhoover there are quite a lot of them from @lonelysandwich and crew - if not all of them already ;-) We've been longtime fans. Maybe we should curate a whole Sandwich-produced collection on there! What do you think @adamlisagor?
Adam Lisagor
@rrhoover @adamlisagor Very much into this idea. Thanks!

Hi fellow hunters! First off, thanks so much @kevin for hunting us! :) I’m @californyann, the maker of Spectacle along with @slhomme. Why Spectacle? You can have the best product in the world, but if nobody knows about it, what good is it? One of the best ways to promote your product is to make a video - ask Dollar Shave Club ;-) So we started curating all the best product and marketing videos out there, as a source of inspiration. What is it exactly? The idea is simple: a place that surfaces the latest and greatest product and marketing videos on the web, updated every day. Who is it for? Product teams, marketers and makers looking for inspiration on how to promote and market their own products using video. But it’s not just launch videos, it’s also onboarding videos, customer stories, how-to videos, recruiting videos and much more. It’s also great for startup nerds like us who like to geek out about the latest product trends :) What’s cool about Spectacle? ✓ Over 3,000 product and marketing videos featured ✓ Updated daily to reflect the newest products and trends ✓ Filers: search by category, use-case, topic, style, mood, formats... ✓ Video collections curated by influencers ✓ Save videos to your own collections and share with your team What’s next? This is our MVP so there already are a ton of things we’re thinking of adding and improving but we’d love to hear what you think and what would make it better :) Enjoy!

@kevin @califrornyan @seblhomme @californyann is it startupvideos or is it spectacle?
Sebastien Lhomme
@basicbonsai Hi Nancy, that's "Spectacle". We used StartupVideos as our prototype name, but as much as we loved that name, it felt too restrictive: some of the videos we curate come from big (mostly tech) companies that we can't quite call "startups" anymore! Anyhow, I see that we left the old name in a few places, we'll update those right up to avoid any confusion! Thanks for the catch.

Finally! A place to find solid inspiration for product videos with great tools for collecting and sharing videos with clients, vendors, and internal teams. Highly recommended for anyone in video production or startups looking for video inspiration for their own brands.

Pros:

Excellent concept and great execution. Looking forward to seeing where this goes!

Cons:

Wish I had this years ago!

Guillaume Bardet
Congrats on the launch! It seems like a great list, I already found quite a few interesting videos to get some inspiration from. :)
Sebastien Lhomme
@guillaumebardet Thanks @guillaumebardet, excited to hear that. We'll keep adding a tone more great videos daily :)

It's going to be great

Finally! A much-needed curation of the best in product launches, videos, and content. Thank you

Just needs time to grow, but I'm confident it will take off

Thought this would be lame, but it's great! Is the name a reference to Society of the Spectacle?
Sebastien Lhomme
@school_4_ants haha! Better this than the reverse. What made you think this would be lame? I'm honestly curious. Feels like something we can improve for our next product launches!! The name is not related to the Society of the Spectacle. We did wonder however if anybody would think that.
Hunter Carter
@slhomme It may not be intentional, but it is definitely related. Have you read the book? The core premise is that our civilization is "controlled" by means of imagery which is manufactured (i.e. advertising, propaganda, etc) and disseminated/installed into the minds of citizens, at which point it becomes a frame of reference about how to act, think, etc, and that this imagery-delivery-system which is referred to as The Spectacle, becomes semi-self-aware, or at the very least, adapts to changes in cultural conditions. So your site is in some sense the direct embodiment of The Spectacle. Reason I thought it would be lame is that I work in advertising and the last thing I thought I'd want to do would be spend time on a portal for discovering even more of it...but actually the content on the front page is top-tier. I suspect curation will be key. If it gets "gamed" it would lose its appeal.
Sebastien Lhomme
@school_4_ants I haven't read the book, but it sounds very interesting, I'll check it out for sure. Thanks for bringing it up, I can totally see now how you'd think it could be related! Ohh, ok I see what you mean about not wanting to see more (average) ads. We're totally on the same boat. Our goal is to only show the very best, the most creative videos, the ones that push the boundaries! Not only for "promotional" videos, but also for onboarding videos, how-tos, explainers, etc. Like you said, the curation is key! It's definitely going to stay the priority over time. We'll always only select "la creme de la creme". We think the curated "collections" will also help a lot with this. We want to help ad agencies, video production companies and businesses see what's best in terms of video production/marketing and help everyone raise the bar in terms of quality and creativity.
