I'd be reading an article and hit a word I didn't know how to say, and the only fix was to copy it, open a new tab, Google it, hunt for the audio, then find my place again. Every single time it broke my reading flow. So I built Speakli. Double-click any word on any webpage and a little popup shows you the pronunciation, phonetics, and definition right there. Click the speaker to hear it, slow it down if it's tricky, then click away and keep reading. There's also a right-click option: select a word, right-click, and choose "Pronounce with Speakli." That's handy on pages where double-click doesn't work for whatever reason, so you're never stuck. A few things I care about: It's completely free. No account, no login. No tracking, no data collection. It runs in your browser and the only external call is a dictionary lookup. It works everywhere: blogs, Wikipedia, news, docs, even PDFs. I built it especially with English learners in mind (ESL students, folks prepping for TOEFL/IELTS), but honestly I use it myself on medical and technical terms all the time. It's early.
