A few months ago, I moved to Turkey, and like a lot of expats, I needed to learn Turkish fast. I tried the popular apps. They were fun, but none of them were built around how memory actually works — no real spaced repetition, no structured path from vocabulary to grammar to actual spoken conversation, just gamified drilling that didn't stick. So I built Speafy, using my own medical background in how the brain forms and retains memory, combined with my skills in vibe-coding, to put together something different: an AI tutor (meet Babi 👋) that teaches through Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler (FSRS). The same "review right before you'd forget it" principle used in serious memory research, paired with a real curriculum (454 topics, 3,544 words), a dedicated grammar reference, and an AI-powered speaking lab so you actually practice talking, not just tapping multiple choice. It started as a personal project to solve my own problem. Hundreds of iterations, bugs, and rebuilds later, it's turned into a stable platform I'm genuinely proud to put in front of other serious learners — not just for Turkish, with more languages coming soon.
